Sex changes everything. We’ve learned in life, and in film, that friendships shift radically when bed-hopping joins the menu. The nether world of “friends with benefits” notwithstanding, this rule of attraction is known by pretty much everyone. Except, perhaps, the folks behind “Shall We Kiss?”
Despite the enticing title, it’s not especially sexy or romantic, but rather a farcical French film from writer-director-star Emmanuel Mouret.
A man and a woman meet and share a lovely evening. When he goes to kiss her goodnight, she resists. She then explains why even a seemingly ...

Nearly half a century ago, in a very different America, Elwin Wilson and John Lewis met under a veil of violence and race-inspired hate.
Wilson, a young, white, Southern man, attacked Lewis, a freedom rider for Martin Luther King, in the “white” waiting room of a South Carolina bus station.
The men had not seen each other again until Tuesday when, with “Good Morning America’s” help, Wilson approached Lewis again — this time offering an apology and a chance to relieve a burden he’d carried for more than four decades.
“I’m so sorry ...

Retired Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Bill Gates on Thursday released a swarm of mosquitoes at a California conference in a stunt to draw support for his anti-malaria cause.

The mosquitoes released by Gates from a jar during a talk Wednesday at the Technology, Entertainment and Design (TED) 2009 in Long Beach stunned scientists, academics and business leaders attending the annual event.
“Malaria is spread by mosquitoes,” Gates yelled to the crowd before unleashing the insects, which were not carrying the disease, according to the Telegraph. “I brought some. Here I’ll let them ...

Swimming superstar Michael Phelps has admitted to doubts over whether he will compete at the 2012 Olympics in London.
The 23-year-old is considering the next stage of his career after the publication of a photo appearing to show him smoking marijuana at a party.
The American was non-committal when asked if he intends to swim in London.
“This is a decision of mine that I’m not going to make today and I’m not going to make tomorrow,” Phelps told the Baltimore Sun newspaper.
“If I decide to walk away, I’ll decide to walk away ...

Dr. Margaret Gatz, a professor of psychology, gerontology and preventative medicine at the University of Southern California, conducts research on interventions that may reduce the risk ofAlzheimer’s disease. In a recent study, published in the January 2009 issue of the journal Diabetes, Dr. Gatz and her team tracked rates ofdementia and diabetes in Swedish twins and discovered that developing diabetes before the age of 65 was associated with a 125 percent increased risk of subsequently developing Alzheimer’s disease.
1. How did you become interested in the relationship between diabetes and dementia?
Our research began with the question why some ...
